‘Dragonfly in Amber’ by Diana Gabaldon might have been good.
Synopsis: For twenty years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to the majesty of Scotland’s mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones, about a love that transcends the boundaries of time, and about James Fraser, a warrior whose gallantry once drew the young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his. Now a legacy of blood and desire will test her beautiful daughter as Claire’s spellbinding journey continues in the intrigue-ridden court of Charles Edward Stuart, in a race to thwart a doomed uprising, and in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves.
I copied and pasted the above synopsis because I don’t know. I’m pretty bummed out about this book. I’m not sure what went wrong, whether it’s me or if its the book but I just didn’t care anymore about any of the characters or the story. I found myself hating the pace (its so fucking slow) and there’s so much unnecessary descriptions and the conversations where boring. I have no doubt that the book would pick up eventually but I just couldn’t bear the thought of slogging through it to get there. it has taken me over two months to get to this point and I’m not even a fifth of the way through. I know that other people have said to stick with it, and that this boring bit in the book is key to other elements that come later on but I just can’t. Please don’t make me.
I may or may not revisit this book in the future but for now, I think I’ll just watch the TV show and see if that goes any better for me.

Interesting! I have yet to start this series, but I love the show! I am finding that season 3 which I believe is the same timeline as this book is a little tough for me to get into though…

I’m halfway through season 2 of the show and enjoying it so far but I have heard that it does get a bit more questionable
